At La Almunia del Valle, on a privileged place of the Monachil Valley, Granada, we are halfway to the snow and the Costa Tropical.
Snow from Sierra Nevada, the Mountain of the Sun. Since last November 23rd, skiers and other visitors enjoy the most southern ski resort in Europe. It has the largest vertical drop of all ski resorts in Spain (1200m) with a length of 110 km of marked slopes. From its highest point at 3300m, on the Veleta peak, we get to see the Mediterranean Sea and on clear days even the African coastline. Sierra Nevada offers excellent conditions for winter sports lovers.
From the mountain, we go down to the beach.
About 50 min from La Almunia del Valle, La Costa Tropical runs between Granada and Malaga along with villages such as Motril, Salobreña, Almuñécar, La Herradura... It is bathed by the Mediterranean Sea, protected from the north wind by Sierra Nevada mountains and influenced by the winds of Africa. Granada's coastline offers a subtropical climate. With more than 300 days of sunshine per year and average annual temperatures of 20 degrees that make the winter of this coast, the warmest in Europe.
This natural environment is perfect for the orchards of delicious tropical fruits such as mango, custard apple or avocado available all winter.
The old national road N-340, in its section La Herradura-Nerja, is a paradise for cyclists and for anyone who wants to enjoy a sunny winter day travelling along the coast of Granada. The natural area of Cerro Gordo-Maro is a wild corner of our Costa Tropical with its steep cliffs and the watchtowers of the 16th and 17th centuries.
Salobreña is an impressive white town on a rock and topped by a 13th-century Arab castle. It is one of the most beautiful villages on the Costa Tropical of Granada.
Its streets, steep and narrow, reveal its past. Its corners with Andalusian charm overlooking the sea or the walk along the cliffs of the fishing district of La Caleta will be the icing on the cake. Enjoy your winter with La Almunia del Valle, halfway to the snow and the Costa Tropical in Granada.
