Montefrío, one of the most beautiful villages in Andalusia
Montefrío is about 70 kms away from our Hotel, La Almunia del Valle, but it is still worth the trip. The beautiful village is crowned by the 16th century Church Iglesia de la Villa, which was built upon the remains of a former Arab fortress.
Once there, you might want to visit other, nearby villages like Moclín, Íllora or Zafra before continuing towards Alhama de Granada. You'll drive through a beautiful countryside that offers spectacular panoramic views.
Alhama de Granada and its white houses that cling to the side of a steep gorge
Just about 60 kms from Granada, this town is famous for its baths and thermal waters (which were well known back in Roman times), but also for its beautiful mountainous surroundings and charming white centre and houses that cling to the side of a steep gorge.
It's historic monuments are the legacy of the different cultures that have passed through Andalusia and this town - attracted by the fame of its waters: You might want to visit the 1st century BC Roman bridge, the Torresolana watchtower and the Granary, the old 13th century synagogue and - first and foremost - the Moorish baths with their Caliphal-style arches and vaults (located within the SPA Resort). Concerning the Christian period, we recommend the Santa María de la Encarnación Church, the Inquisition House, the La Reina Hospital and the Caño Wamba fountain.
